Male Shopping Strategy 101 - The Underwear Shortage

October 9th, 2007
Economy, Personal

As we all know most guys hate shopping, this is partly responsible for our tendency to be loyal to a specific brand once we found one we like (lucky for the wife), and why commercials tend to target women more. Even then, nothing is worse than having to shop for underwear, I mean its not like you can try it on. No, you have to buy one, go home, test it, and if the boys aren’t comfortable, go find another home for them.

low riseA few years ago, after an intensive search campaign, I finally found the perfect pair, light, thin, comfortable, low rise briefs. As a bonus they come in black. Naturally I had to clean out the store’s stock (40 pairs). Unfortunately they are made of cotton rather than titanium alloy, and by now, we’re losing one a month.

Last week I was down to 10 pairs, and for the first time in a decade, I had to use the emergency reserve underwear supply. Namely two pairs my mom bought me last year for reasons I didn’t understand at the time. Anyhow the inferior emergency underwear just won’t do.

Since dignity is at stake, funds were immediately allocated, but the real problem was finding a supplier. To my great surprise, I found them on amazon. With Aramex’s help, a new shipment should be arriving soon, and I didn’t even have to enter the store (never a good thing) !

I leave you with this hilarious commercial. Its based on an old Army song.

I love underwear shopping. But if you look at my drawer, it’s like “Min kul qotr oghniya” I love to have variety .. I probably have couple hundred :) But I don’t wear them. I’m too gentle on them, and change them very frequently!

Chika Can I enlist your services in this Arena? :)

Sel3, I wasn’t sure about whether you call them a pair or not.

Chika, thanks for the offer, but I’m not a very fun shopping partner. I tend to take a quick look around the store, and quickly run out ! unless its a bookstore or an electronics outlet !

Hamede, I guess as long as all the fruit stays inside the loom !

Qwaider, a couple hundred different ones. Wow, time to open a museum :)

You forgot to mention boxer briefs. They’re better than boxers, and better than briefs. They’re boxer briefs.

Yes, yes, I’m a girl. I just like being helpful, that’s all.

Interesting, I never liked boxers because they’re loose which can be uncomfortable when you wear something on top. Boxer briefs definitely worth a try.

Note: sorry for the delay, anything with a link goes through moderation.

Gah someone just woke me up with a phonecall and I pressed cancel instead of accept. What’s vacation-time for, if not to sleep !

Oh man I totally know what you mean. Since I moved to Dubai I have been trying a lot of different brands and types, until I became incredibly comfortable with tangas from Woolworths

Boxers - Roomy :D

You are just like me, very picky and when you go to buy new ones you buy them in a huge quantity.
